Following a report conducted by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) into migration and the construction industry, it was revealed that one in three firms employ migrant workers saying they have comparable skills to British workers and are more readily available
In addition, half of firms with migrant labour expect an impact from potential migrant caps following Brexit. Half of London construction firms rely heavily on migrant workers and 2 in 5 employment agencies are expecting staff shortages due to Brexit.
Most employers have stated they do not actively seek to employ migrant workers. They have also stated that they do so, not because of misconception of cheaper labour but due to a shortage of skilled applicants from the UK. Some employers also stated that migrant workers tend to have a better work ethic.
