The CITB health safety and environment test is a touch screen multiple-choice test and is taken by construction workers to demonstrate they understand how to work safely within a construction environment. If you wish to apply for a CSCS card you need to have passed this test within the last 2 years and retake the test when your card expires (normally every 5 years). There are 3 versions of the test and you will need to take the one relevant to your job role. The tests are Operative, Specialist and Managers and Professionals. The HSE test comprises of 50 multiple choice questions answered by simply selecting the correct answer on the touch screen. The exam is presented in English but a voiceover via headset can be ordered in multiple languages if English is not your first language or you have difficulty in reading.
There are 5 core knowledge areas covered by the test to ensure candidates have a good understanding of environmental issues, and how to behave safely on-site, these are:
• legal and management
• health and welfare
• general safety
• high-risk activities
• environment
Each test candidate has 45 minutes to answer the 50 questions with a pass mark current set at 45 except for Managers and Professionals who are required to correctly answer 46 to pass.
