To get any CSCS card, you first must have passed the CITB health, safety and environment test at an approved test centre. The test may vary depending on your trade and qualifications, but in most occasions, you will need to pass the "operatives" test. There is some specialist test that may need to be taken for specific job roles and a guide to these tests are below.

Green CSCS Card
Labourer & General Operative
Are you a labourer, bricklayer, carpenter, electrician or general construction site operative? For most construction occupations you will need to apply for a green CSCS card and pass the operatives CITB health and safety test. You must have passed the CITB health safety and environment test within the last 2 years to apply for or renew a CSCS card. If you have not, you can request a test by clicking on the book now button below. This card replaces the Construction Site Operative card (CSO) that has now been withdrawn.
What test do I need? To apply for the green card you will need to pass the "operatives" CITB Health, Safety and environment test.

Blue CSCS Card
Skilled worker
If you have completed an employer sponsored apprenticeship or achieved a construction related NVQ or SVQ level 2, then you can apply for a Blue CSCS card.
What test do I need? You will need to pass the CITB health and safety test relevant to your job role. In most cases, this will be the operatives test but if you are in a specialist role you may require a test matching your occupation (such as working at heights or highway works).

Gold CSCS Card
Advanced Craft or Supervisory
Have you achieved a construction related NVQ or SVQ level 3 or Construction Related Supervisory NVQ or SVQ level 3 or 4? Then you need a gold card.

Black CSCS Card
Manager
Managers who have an achievement of construction related NVQ/SVQ levels 5, 6 or 7 in the relevant construction management level qualification will require a black card.

White CSCS Card
Academically Qualified Person
Those who have completed certain construction related degrees, HNDs, HNCs, CIOB Certificates and NEBOSH diplomas.

Red CSCS Card
Apprentice, trainee, experienced worker or experienced supervisor or manager.
Red cards are temporary cards issued to apprentices, experienced workers and experienced supervisors or managers while training towards a recognised apprenticeship framework or construction related NVQ or SVQ. You will still need to pass the CITB health safety and environment test within the last 2 years to apply for a card. If you have not done so, click on the book now button below.
What Test do I need? All applicants must pass the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test. Construction Professionals in a Supervisory role should take the Supervisors test. Managers should take the Manager and Professionals Test.
